The Venezuelan government has reportedly cracked down on two businessmen linked to Maduro, according to Colombian broadcaster Caracol and The New York Times.

The two businessmen, Alex Saab and Raúl Gorrín, have been arrested and questioned. Saab was until recently minister of industry.

Saab was previously convicted in the United States but released in an exchange. Gorrín is accused of money laundering in the United States. The intervention indicates closer cooperation between the United States and Venezuela - following the United States raid in January that captured President Maduro in Caracas.

The new president, Delcy Rodríguez, has taken a strident tone in public but is reported to have been more compliant behind the scenes.

The Trump administration in the United States has made it clear that it expects cooperation, especially regarding Venezuela's oil resources.
