"We must get better in everything, really."
That's what IFK Värnamo's sports manager Jörgen Petersson stated when he was interviewed on the Max broadcast from Örjans Vall.
At the classic arena in Halmstad, Värnamo suffered another defeat in a season where almost everything is going wrong for the Smålanders. It has never happened before that a team has started an Allsvenskan football season with seven straight losses.
Red card before halftime
HBK won the bottom-of-the-table clash 4–2 – and yet Värnamo had to play with one man more after Gabriel Wallentin's sending-off in the 38th minute.
When Wallentin received the red card, Halmstad had already taken the lead after back colleague Filip Schyberg's early goal. It would get even worse for Värnamo when Naeem Mohammed added to both 2–0 and 3–0. And before the hour was played, Yannick Agnero scored 4–0 against a Värnamo in free fall.
We concede three goals with one man more. I've probably been through a lot in my football career – but I've never experienced that, sighs Värnamo's Simon Thern to Max.
Värnamo has, despite the long losing streak, often created many scoring opportunities and also against HBK had the team the most shots and clearly the most ball possession. It eventually led to goals through both Johnbosco Kalu and Ajdin Zeljkovic.
Draw in Degerfors
Earlier in the week, Värnamo fired the coaching duo Ferran Sibila and Robin Asterhed, and the team was led by the temporary solution Juan Robledo. The goal is to have a new coaching constellation in place within a few days, says Jörgen Petersson to Max.
In Saturday's other Allsvenskan match, Degerfors and Sirius played 1–1 at Stora Valla. Marcus Rafferty gave Degerfors the lead, Leo Walta equalized for Sirius, now down to a negative qualifying spot.
