Vattenfall management and Energy Minister Ebba Busch (KD) are being summoned to the Riksdag's Economic Affairs Committee after the announcement of sharply increased electricity network fees. There is a limit somewhere, says the Left Party's Birger Lahti.

Birger Lahti, energy policy spokesperson for V, believes that state-owned Vattenfall must explain itself given that electricity network fees have been raised sharply for several years.

Therefore, company management is called to the business committee, together with the Energy Market Inspectorate and Minister of Energy and Business Ebba Busch.

Once again, it is those with the smallest margins who are hit the hardest. This means just over SEK 1,500 more a year in network fees, says Lahti.

The Green Party's spokesman Daniel Helldén is also sharply critical.

What we see is a kind of Ebba Busch awards rushing towards us here.

Motivated by investments

Ebba Busch says in a written comment to TT that the maintenance debt on the Swedish electricity grid requires the electricity grid companies to make extensive investments:

"The increased electricity network fees are a consequence of this. To get order out of the increases, the government has presented legislative proposals on the electricity and gas networks of the future. They will ensure that fees are reasonable and strengthen the regulatory authority's ability to control."

Vattenfall and Ellevio also justify the increases by saying that major network investments have been made.

Despite this, the Social Democrats' Fredrik Olovsson describes the rate of price increases as "far too high".

This is simply not a sustainable situation, he says.

Sharper regulation of the market is needed so that customers are not affected as severely, according to S, but which at the same time allows the electricity grid to be expanded.

If state-owned Vattenfall goes ahead and lowers the fee, the other companies would have to follow suit, according to the Left Party, which also believes that Vattenfall's return requirements may need to be changed.

“The system is backwards”

Center Party spokesperson Rickard Nordin says that it is "deeply problematic" that electricity grid fees continue to rise.

The entire electricity grid system is backwards, the companies get paid the most for doing the most expensive measures, that is, building new networks. There is huge potential to make things more efficient instead, he says.

TT has also contacted SD and M. SD has declined to comment.

Facts: This is how electricity grid fees are being raised

TT

The country's electricity network companies have a monopoly and have increased the fee by a total of almost 60 percent over the past ten years. Unlike in the electricity trade, where the customer can choose the electricity company themselves, the electricity network company is not selectable.

During 2025, the electricity network fee has generally increased among all companies around the country by an average of 10.6 percent.

The new announcement means that Vattenfall will increase prices by 14 percent from the beginning of the year. This corresponds to approximately SEK 130 per month for an electrically heated villa and SEK 35 for an apartment.

Ellevio is raising the fixed fee by 8 percent and the variable fee by 12 percent for residential customers. The system is being changed for apartment customers, which is why it is more difficult to calculate how it will affect them. The fixed fee is being raised by 9 percent for many, while some will have their fee reduced.
