On Monday, it was reported that Hochstein had delayed his departure, waiting for clearer signals about Hezbollah's views on the proposals for a ceasefire. Then, apparently, positive signals came from the Iran-allied movement. Lebanon's parliament speaker Nabih Berri, who is negotiating on behalf of Hezbollah, said that his side accepts the US proposal.
However, this prompted the US national security adviser to respond in PBS broadcasts:
We do not have an agreement. If we had, we would have shouted it from the rooftops. But we think we see progress.
If the talks in Beirut go well, Hochstein is expected to continue on to Israel.
