Foreign Minister Antony Blinken says in a statement that the package is part of the efforts to "ensure that Ukraine has the capacity needed" to defend itself against Russian aggression.
The landmines will likely be used to delay the advance of Russian and North Korean soldiers in the Russian Kursk region.
The support also includes a batch of person mines, a highly controversial weapon that has been banned by a large majority of the world's countries, including Ukraine.
Earlier on Monday, several American sources stated that the support package would contain equipment for an American-made robot system, which may indicate that robots with longer range are on their way to Ukraine, according to the AP news agency.
But it is still unclear whether it concerns equipment for Atacams robots, which the Biden administration recently gave the green light.
The outgoing President Joe Biden and his administration are working intensively to use as quickly as possible, before the incoming President Donald Trump's entry into the White House, the over 7 billion dollars that have previously been allocated for support to Ukraine by Congress. Trump has since promised that he will bring the war to a quick end, but has not provided any details on how it will be done.
