Chinese and American officials met in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to resolve the deadlock on tariff issues between the world's largest economies.
A spokesperson for the US Department of Finance gave a brief description of Saturday's talks and also said that they will be resumed on Sunday.
The Chinese delegation made no public statements after the five and a half hour long meeting.
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet for talks in connection with the Apec summit in South Korea.
Trump, who on Friday began his trip to Asia, told reporters on board the presidential plane that he and Xi have "a lot to discuss" and that both sides will make compromises.
During his trip to Asia, Trump also expects to meet with Brazilian President Lula da Silva, and says that it is not entirely impossible that the US import tariffs of 50 percent on Brazilian goods will be reduced.
Under the right circumstances, yes, Trump told reporters on Friday.
Lula also wants US sanctions against various Brazilian government officials to be lifted.
