"Leave Iran now. Have a plan for leaving Iran that does not rely on assistance from the U.S. government," reads the updated security warning on the U.S. virtual embassy in Iran website.
Anyone who cannot leave should “find a safe place” in their home or another safe building.
“Have access to food, water, medicine and other essentials.”
The warning comes after U.S. President Donald Trump issued repeated threats against the regime in Tehran, which has brutally cracked down on pro-democracy protests that have raged for more than two weeks. White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said the president is keeping the door open to “all options” in his response to Iran, including airstrikes.
"Keep an eye on the media for the latest news. Be prepared to adjust your plans," the embassy writes.
On Monday, Swedes in Iran were also urged to leave the country.
