Messages, retransmissions, or referrals to posts that support groups that are terrorist-listed in the USA, such as Hamas, Hezbollah in Lebanon, or the Houthi movement in Yemen, are affected by the decision. Anti-Semitic messages are also included in the search.

Such messages "constitute negative factors" in visa decisions, announces the Migration Agency.

"Those who think they can come to the USA and hide behind (the freedom of speech clause) to defend anti-Semitic violence and terrorism – think again", said spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin at the Department of Homeland Security, citing Minister Kristi Noem.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at the end of March that he had stopped visas for around 300 people and that he would continue to do so on a daily basis.

The decision takes effect immediately and affects both visas and residence and work permits.
