The United States will no longer recommend that all children receive vaccines against rotavirus and influenza, among other things.
Instead, the CDC should recommend that vaccines preventing these diseases, as well as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and meningococcal disease, be given to selected groups of high-risk individuals - or when parents and doctors deem them justified.
The change was announced by the Department of Health, led by Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy, who is a known vaccine skeptic.
At the end of 2024, the CDC recommended 17 childhood vaccines for everyone. Now there are eleven.
