Iran was forced to leave Los Angeles immediately after its opening match against New Zealand and will have only one day in the United States before Sunday's match with Belgium, a move that has been met with harsh criticism from the Iranian side.
But now Andrew Giuliani, head of the White House's FIFA group, says that "discussions are ongoing" about the travel restrictions.
"I know the president wants to ensure the sporting competition on the field while ensuring our national security," Giuliani said in an interview with local television news in Seattle, according to the BBC.
If travel restrictions are lifted, the changes will only apply to Iran's final group match against Egypt in Seattle on June 27.
