According to the Iranian news agency Mehr, explosions were heard in Bushehr, Choghadak and the city of Bandar Abbas. However, the information is unconfirmed and there are also conflicting reports. A US official told Al Jazeera that the US military has not carried out any attacks in Iran in recent hours.

Late Wednesday night, the United States carried out several attacks on Iran. The nuclear power plant in Bushehr, Iran, was reportedly one of the targets, Iranian state media reported. The deputy governor of the province confirmed several strikes near the facility. New explosions were also heard near the port city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday, according to the Iranian news agency Mehr.

Israel ready to attack

Israel is prepared to resume attacks on Iran if necessary, and with "even greater force," Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday.

The war is not over yet, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said.

"We have proven that the long arm of the Israeli Air Force can reach everywhere, from Yemen to Iran. Yet we must admit that the operation is not over," he said.

On Thursday, there were also reports of airstrikes in Jordan. Eight Iranian missiles were shot down, according to local media. The target was said to be the Muwaffaq Salti air base, a hub for US fighter jets in the region.

According to the state-run Iranian Fars agency, air raid sirens have also sounded in northern Iraq.

Attacked Patriot system

The ongoing attacks began late Wednesday evening. Just hours earlier, Trump had declared at the NATO summit in Ankara that he saw the ceasefire with Iran as over.

For about six hours, around 90 targets in Iran were attacked, with reports of explosions in several places. Air defence facilities were reportedly attacked, as were two railway bridges in northern Iran.

Around 3 a.m. Swedish time, the first Iranian responses came. American targets in Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain, including Patriot missile defence systems in Qatar, were attacked with drones.

The attacks are somewhat of a repeat of the previous night, when the US attacked more than 80 targets in Iran after accusations that Iran had fired on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded with about the same number of attacks on US targets around the Persian Gulf.

“Stop flapping”

On Thursday night, Donald Trump posted several videos and photos on Truth Social, depicting fires and explosions in unspecified locations.

"This is retaliation for yesterday's Iranian bombing of ships. If it happens again, it will be much worse," he wrote.

Iran's chief negotiator and speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf accuses the US of not understanding the "cost" of the attacks.

"Stop flapping around aimlessly, or you will sink even deeper. The Strait of Hormuz will only be opened by 'deals with Iran', not by American threats," he writes.
