To reduce immigration, President Donald Trump has introduced a requirement that visa applicants from 50 developing countries must pay up to $15,000 (about 140,000 SEK), refundable when they return home.
The requirement has affected, among other things, five World Cup-participating countries - Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Tunisia.
However, on Wednesday, the US State Department announced that it will make exceptions for members of teams playing World Cup matches in the United States, as well as for fans from participating countries who already have tickets and have signed up for a visa-priority system.
The World Cup is being played in the United States, Mexico and Canada and kicks off on June 11.
