Analysts had expected, on average, 113,000 new jobs in June, according to a compilation by the Bloomberg news agency.
Unemployment in June was 4.2 percent, down from 4.3 percent in May.
In May, 129,000 new jobs were created, according to revised figures. Previous estimates were 172,000 new jobs.
The slowdown in job growth in June was driven primarily by the largest decline in employment in the leisure and hospitality industry since 2020. The retail and information sectors also saw job losses. However, health and social services continued to hire heavily.
