The consultation period for the cultural canon that the Tidöpartierna parties have had developed ends on January 7. But already now the Swedish Arts Council has been tasked with promoting cultural tourism linked to the content of the canon, which stirs up emotions in the trade union DIK.

The assignment is presented in the government's appropriations letter for 2026 and the union chairwoman of the DIK union, Anna Troberg, is critical.

The consultations are for gathering knowledge, "not so that the government can periodically have the opportunity to show the consultation bodies how much they are ignoring them," she writes in a comment.

Anna Troberg believes that museums and others are drawn into the work of "pushing the cultural canon", whether they want to or not.

The 100 works and phenomena included in the canon are determined by expert groups.

The government's consultation procedure concerns how cannon should be used, which the cannon committee submitted proposals for in its investigation, which the government will now decide on in an upcoming bill.

The Arts Council must present a plan for the mission to promote cultural tourism by April 15 next year.

In a written comment to TT, Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M) says that the assignment to the Swedish Arts Council is not "part of the investigation report that is now out for consultation."

"Promoting the tourism industry and cultural tourism around the country is also part of promoting the cultural and creative industries according to the government's strategy," she writes.
