According to the Swedish Labour Force Survey, unemployment increased unexpectedly in March. It reached 9.7 percent, an increase of 1.2 percentage points compared with March 2025.

Statistics Sweden warns that the figure is uncertain.

The LFS is based on both telephone interviews and online surveys.

The online survey system has been sluggish, so several people have chosen to cancel and not submit their answers, says Stener.

It is mainly employees and entrepreneurs who submit responses via online surveys, so the dropout rate in that group may have been higher.

Statistics Sweden has tried to call those who did not respond, but it is usually more difficult to reach employed people by phone than the unemployed.

Seasonally adjusted, unemployment is 8.7 percent, unchanged from the previous month and slightly lower than March last year. This figure is more stable and is considered less uncertain.
