In a message to TT, Kristersson's (The Moderate Party) press secretary Hanna Strömberg says:
"We are following the developments in South Korea. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently gathering information about the situation in the country and we will return when we have a comprehensive picture."
She adds that Energy and Business Minister Ebba Busch (Christian Democrats), Defense Minister Pål Jonson (The Moderate Party), and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Benjamin Dousa (The Moderate Party) are still in Japan.
Sweden's ambassador to South Korea, Karl-Olof Andersson, tells Dagens Nyheter that the situation is currently difficult to assess.
It's quite messy. We are following the situation and making an assessment, says the ambassador.
The purpose of the trip to Asia, according to the Prime Minister's press department, has been to strengthen cooperation in business, energy, and security.
When TT spoke to Ulf Kristersson before the trip, the security situation in the region was discussed. According to the Prime Minister, there is concern in both Japan and South Korea about China's increasingly open support for Russia.
A lot is happening in this region that is of great security policy interest. Not least connected to China. If you add that China is an enabler of Russia's war against Ukraine, it's clear that it creates concern.
