"After last week's ban on the import of all humanitarian aid and other essential necessities, including fuel for generators, the decision is very worrying", writes Seif Magango, spokesperson for the UN's human rights organization OHCHR, to AFP.
"Without electricity and with a fuel blockade, Gaza's remaining desalination plants, healthcare facilities, and bakeries risk being forced to close, with serious consequences for the civilian population", he continues.
Magango emphasizes that Israel, "as an occupying power", has a commitment to ensure that all Palestinians living under their control have access to essential necessities.
Israel's Energy Minister Eli Cohen described the decision on Sunday as a way to pressure Hamas, which is labeled as a terrorist organization.
