The UN is to "reduce its footprint" in Gaza since an Israeli tank fired at one of the world organization's facilities last week and killed an employee and injured five others.

Israel has denied that its military was behind the explosion on March 19 at the UN agency Unops' headquarters in central Gaza.

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres' spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric says in a statement that "based on the information currently available" an Israeli tank was behind the attack on the building.

Dujarric further states that the UN "has made the difficult decision to reduce the organization's footprint in Gaza, despite the increasing humanitarian needs." He emphasizes that the UN "will not leave Gaza", but provides no further details on the consequences of the decision.
