Drones from the paramilitary RSF have caused fires in fuel depots in the city of Kosti in the Sudanese state of White Nile, according to an army source, AFP reports.
Additionally, reports are emerging of new drone attacks on the large naval base north of the port city of Port Sudan on Thursday.
Guterres warns
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres warns in a statement about Wednesday's attack that "this powerful escalation can lead to extensive civilian casualties and further destruction of critical infrastructure", says Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for Guterres.
According to a military source, a drone attack was directed at Sudan's largest naval base in the port city of Port Sudan on Wednesday. Air defense missiles were used to repel the attack, which meant that there were attacks on the city for four consecutive days.
Complicates aid
It is via Port Sudan that the majority of humanitarian aid enters Sudan, and according to the UN, the attacks can both increase the need for help - and simultaneously complicate its delivery.
"The Secretary-General is concerned about the conflict spreading to an area that has served as a refuge for a large number of people displaced from the capital Khartoum and other areas", says the spokesperson.
Tens of thousands of people have been killed and around 13 million have been forced to leave their homes in the war where the regular military and RSF militia have been fighting since the spring of 2023.
