In next week, the Eurovision Song Contest will be decided in Basel in Switzerland, and Chrystyna Starykova is on site to represent her country as a backing vocalist behind the group Ziferblat.
Now, the 19-year-old is sharing news from home on social media.
In a post, you can see a bombed-out house, with shattered windows and destroyed balconies. The result of a Russian attack on Starykova's hometown Myrnohrad, writes BBC.
"Fortunately, my relatives and friends have made it", writes Starykova, who will perform in Basel "for my country's sake, to show our strength".
Ziferblat will sing their song "Bird of pray" in the first semifinal on Tuesday, one starting number before the Swedish entry "Bara bada bastu" with KAJ.
Chrystyna Starykova grew up in the city of Myrnohrad in Donetsk, where Russia invaded as early as 2014. Shortly after the outbreak of war, her family moved to the capital Kyiv, where her artist career took off.
But she has long dreamed of returning, and several relatives still live there, even though they have all been affected by the war and had their homes destroyed.
"I realized that our house was next and unfortunately, it happened. It's terrible to get that message. I really wanted to return", she says in an interview with the TV company Suspilne.
