Explosions were heard in many parts of Ukraine during the night and Friday morning.
According to the Ukrainian military's report, 58 missiles and nearly 200 attack drones were fired at the country. The air defense is said to have shot down 34 of the missiles and about half of the drones. It is not specified in detail where the remaining projectiles landed.
The invasion forces are reported, as many times before, to have targeted the power supply in Ukraine.
Under rubble
"Russia is trying to harm ordinary Ukrainians by targeting power and gas facilities, and does not give up its goal of leaving us without lighting and heating, and causing the greatest possible harm to ordinary citizens," Energy Minister Herman Halusjtjenko announced early in the morning.
In the metropolis of Kharkiv, just a few miles from the front line and the border with Russia in northeastern Ukraine, five people are reported to have been injured, including a woman who was pulled alive from the rubble of a house.
In the defense effort, Ukraine used French Mirage fighter jets for the first time, according to military sources. These were handed over to the country just a few weeks ago and are flown by Ukrainian pilots who have been trained in France.
Zelenskyj emphasizes
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj speaks of "nearly 70" missiles. In a social media post, he again calls for an initial ceasefire in the airspace.
"The first steps to achieve real peace are to force the sole perpetrator of this war, namely Russia, to stop these life-threatening attacks," Zelenskyj writes.
He describes a possible break in all attacks with missiles, drones, and bombs dropped from the air, as well as attacks carried out from ships at sea.
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan supports the proposal for a ceasefire in the air and at sea and describes it as a "confidence-building measure" between the parties. In a social media post, Erdogan notes that it would also facilitate agreements on traffic in the Black Sea – where Russia's fleet has been hampered by a Turkish decision to close the Bosphorus, the only entrance.
