The international athletics federation, World Athletics, will remind the United Kingdom of the rules regarding religious messages, after a sprinter wore a Christian headband during the World Championship in Tokyo.

It was in the men's semifinal on 100 meters that Jeremiah Azu wore a headband with the text "100% Jesus" during the World Championship in Tokyo. It breaks against World Athletics' rules regarding religious and political messages in connection with competitions they arrange.

Azu came fourth in the semifinal and missed the final spot, but may compete again during Saturday's relay.

"We are aware of the headband and since he may compete in the relay, we will remind the team before the competition about our rules and consequences", writes World Athletics in a statement according to BBC.

Azu won gold on 60 meters during the indoor World Championship in March and was part of the British team that took Olympic Games bronze in Paris 2024.
