The incumbent president Yoweri Museveni has promoted his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba as a successor. Kainerugaba is currently the army chief.
It is unclear what the decision to suspend military cooperation for the time being means in practice. Uganda mainly imports machinery and chemical products from Germany. The German embassy in Kampala has not commented on the decision.
