A 45-year-old man was arrested in Dubai in December 2023, suspected of serious accounting fraud, serious document forgery and serious tax crimes in connection with the takeover of a number of companies.

The Economic Crimes Authority is leading the preliminary investigation. The crimes are suspected to have taken place between 2017 and 2022.

Criminal network

The second man, 38, has, according to the police, held a leading position in a criminal network.

The man is, on probable grounds, suspected of particularly serious drug smuggling and particularly serious drug offences, says Michaela Linderoth, press secretary at Swedish Customs, which is investigating the case.

The suspected crimes, which took place between March 2020 and January 2021, are believed to have been committed in collusion with others. The Swedish Customs and the Police Authority tracked the man down by analyzing encrypted chats.

"It's about multiple smuggling operations involving very large quantities of cannabis from Spain to Sweden," says Linderoth.

The man was arrested in the United Arab Emirates in the spring of 2025.

Kristersson: Well done

The crimes are handled as separate cases in Sweden.

In November 2024, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates signed two bilateral agreements on extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.

"Two people have been arrested and handed over to Sweden after a well-executed operation by Swedish authorities and close cooperation with the United Arab Emirates. The message to criminals hiding abroad is clear: You will be found, arrested and prosecuted," says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) in a written statement to TT.

Anders Wiberg, Chief of Police and Head of the International Unit at the National Operations Department, thanks the justice system in the United Arab Emirates.

"The cooperation between us is crucial to achieving success in these types of cases," he tells the police website.
