Shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday, an alarm was raised that a woman and a man had been injured outdoors in a residential area in Västerås. They were taken by ambulance to hospital, where the woman died from her injuries.
The man reportedly escaped without life-threatening injuries.
The people were injured with a sharp object and during the night the police stated that four people, all adults, had been arrested for involvement in the incident. They are now being held on probable cause, the stronger level of suspicion.
One has been arrested for murder and attempted murder and the others for aiding and abetting murder and attempted murder, respectively, says prosecutor Ann-Sofie Trossing.
Information about honor-related violence
Trossing does not want to go into motives or the course of events, but says that the plaintiffs and those arrested are familiar with each other from before.
We are in a super intensive work right now where we are trying to clarify what has happened and we are working by holding interviews and carrying out technical investigations and analyzing the evidence that we have collected, Trossing continues.
Police say they do not suspect the incident is gang-related. According to several media outlets, the incident is linked to a family that has a long history of investigations into honor-related violence.
Tried to save the woman
VLT has spoken to a neighbor who was first on the scene and, together with another neighbor, tried to save the seriously injured woman.
"I tell her to continue doing CPR and that I'm holding the woman. But in the end we see that it's not working," the neighbor tells the newspaper.
The prosecutor will decide by Friday whether to request that the detainees be remanded in custody.
Several police patrols were on site in the area in the hours after the people were found. The site was cordoned off for technical examination and the police conducted interviews with witnesses.
