Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the proposal when he met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of a summit in Turkmenistan on Friday.
Erdogan told Putin that peace efforts were important and that “the introduction of a limited ceasefire regarding energy facilities and especially ports could be beneficial,” according to a statement from his presidential office.
The move comes after several oil tankers linked to the Russian shadow fleet were attacked in the Black Sea. The attacks have been criticized by Turkey, which warned of a “worrying escalation” of the war.
On Friday, there were also reports that a Turkish ship was damaged in a Russian airstrike on the Ukrainian port city of Odessa. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, the minister responsible for Ukraine's reconstruction, no one was injured in the attack.
Turkey, which maintained relations with both Moscow and Kiev during the war, controls the important passage from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean.
