Moving On – Tsitsipas' First Star Fall

It became tougher than many had anticipated, but in the end, the world number one and favorite Jannik Sinner made it through in the Australian Open. It was even worse for Stefanos Tsitsipas, as it came to a complete stop for him.

Defending champion Jannik Sinner, Italy, is through to the second round after a win, 7–6 (7–2), 7–6 (7–5), 6–1, against Nicolas Jarry, Chile.

The over two-meter-tall Chilean, however, put up a good fight against Sinner and saved, among other things, a set ball at 5–6 in the first set to force a tiebreak.

Next, the Italian will face either Taro Daniel, Japan, or home player Tristan Schoolkate.

Today was a tight match, the first set could have ended either way, says Sinner.

Jannik Sinner tested positive for anabolic steroids last year, he was acquitted but still risks suspension as the international doping agency Wada has appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport Cas.

The first star fall in the Grand Slam tournament came in the form of eleventh-seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who lost to Alex Michelsen in three sets.

Michelsen, ranked 42nd in the world, thus took one of the biggest wins of his career when he defeated Tsitsipas, who was in the final in Melbourne just two years ago. It is now the first time since 2018 that he has not managed to advance to the second round in the tournament.

Iga Swiatek, Poland, and Coco Gauff, USA, are also through to the next round.
