"The ball is on China's court. China must make a deal with us. We don't need to make up with them," reads a statement read out by the White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday, which she meant was dictated by Trump.
"There is no difference between China and any other country except that they are much larger, and China wants what we have, what all countries want, what we have – the American consumer – or to put it another way, they need our money," the statement continues.
Maintaining their positions
The comments are a new sign that the US and China continue to stubbornly maintain their positions – indicating that there is no end in sight for the trade war, which has introduced tariffs on goods from the other country at 125 and 145 percent, respectively.
China's latest move – in retaliation against the sky-high American tariffs on the country – was to order the country's airlines on Tuesday to stop receiving further deliveries of aircraft from the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing.
Small progress
For the EU, the trade war also does not seem to be coming to an end soon. Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic met his counterparts in Washington on Monday – but insiders say Sefcovic left the meeting without clarity on the US's stance or goals.
In the two-hour meeting, US Trade Minister Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer participated. According to sources, these indicated that the US's 20 percent tariffs – which have been reduced to 10 percent for 90 days – as well as other tariffs on, for example, vehicles and metals, will not be removed immediately.
