According to Trump, Democrat Tim Walz called him and "asked to work together on Minnesota."
"It was a very good conversation and we actually seemed to be on the same wavelength," Trump writes on his Truth Social platform.
The post came a couple of hours after Trump announced via Truth Social that his border chief, Tom Homan, would soon be heading to the state.
"I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight. He has not worked there, but knows and likes many of the people who live there. Tom is tough but fair and will report directly to me," Trump writes on Truth Social.
The president claims that Walz, who has expressed strong criticism of Trump in response to the recent violence, has been receptive to a visit from the border chief.
On Saturday, 37-year-old Alex Pretti was shot and killed by federal Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis. Analysis shows Pretti approached the officers with a cell phone in his hand. There is no indication that he attempted to use the weapon he was carrying.
