The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has tasked government officials with reviewing how the country's sanctions against Cuba can be tightened in the near future, according to a memo that the news agency AP has taken part of.
Among other things, the President wants to find ways to "shut down" all tourism to the country, and limit educational trips to only being organized by American citizens.
Former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden have both eased American sanctions against the country, which Donald Trump has repeatedly been against.
Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez criticizes the content of the memo, which he believes "punishes" the Cuban population.
"This is a criminal behavior that violates human rights for an entire nation", he writes on X.
The officials are now given 30 days to come up with proposals for how the current sanctions can be tightened.
