We deserve to be treated with respect and I don't think the American president has done that lately, since he took office, says Egede in an interview with Danish DR.
Egede says he is very concerned about "what's going on" in the world, that the world order is wavering on many fronts.
And the president of the USA is very unpredictable, in a way that makes people feel unsafe.
Safe and rich?
During the night to Monday, Trump made a post on his platform Truth Social, promising to make the Greenlanders wealthy:
"We will continue to KEEP YOU SAFE, as we have done since World War II. We are ready to INVEST BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to create new jobs and MAKE YOU RICH", writes the president.
"And, if you so choose, we welcome you to become part of the greatest nation in the world, the USA!", continues Trump.
The post begins with the American leader writing that he supports the Greenlandic people's right to determine their own future.
Greenland is going to the polls on March 11, an election that is expected to be much about increased independence from Denmark.
Military intervention?
In his speech to Congress last week, Trump repeated that the USA will take control of the island "one way or another".
"We are not for sale and cannot just be taken", replied Múte Bourup Egede then.
Trump has previously said that he does not rule out a military intervention to take control of the island, which belongs to Denmark but has had a high degree of self-government for several decades.
The USA has had a military presence on Greenland since World War II. Denmark's defense forces are also present on and around the island.
