President Donald Trump is to carry out the largest domestic mass deportation in US history, according to his own statement.
Just in 2025, the plan is to deport one million people from the USA, according to four federal officials with direct insight into Trump's government, as reported by The Washington Post.
Analysts who have spoken to the newspaper say, however, that the goal appears unrealistic, considering that most migrants have the right to a court hearing before being deported. Another problem is that many cannot be sent back to their home countries because the countries in question are not willing to receive them.
A strategy for achieving the goal is to deport migrants with deportation orders who cannot be deported to their home countries to a third country. According to the Trump administration, negotiations are currently underway with 30 countries to receive deported individuals who are not their own citizens.
The White House spokesperson, Kush Desai, does not want to answer The Washington Post's questions about the government's goal.
There are approximately 11 million so-called undocumented immigrants in the USA who lack formal documents.
