After nearly three hours of meetings - including a lunch of grilled steak and caramelized pears - the American president commented on the conversations on Truth Social, writing that they discussed trade tariffs.
Lula, for his part, said, according to Brazilian O Globo, that "the countries have taken an important step in the relationship."
The meeting was supposed to begin in front of journalists in the Oval Office, but they were shut out - at Lula's request, according to O Globo.
The relationship between the countries became strained when Trump imposed 50 percent tariffs on goods from Brazil in August last year, but improved somewhat again when Trump and Lula met in the fall and, according to Trump, had "fantastic personal chemistry."
