All American military equipment that is not currently in Ukraine is being stopped, says a high-ranking official within the US Department of Defense, according to media reports. On Tuesday afternoon, Tusk said that the reports are confirmed by "reports from the border".
This will also apply to weapons that are on their way to Ukraine by plane or ship, or that are waiting in transit areas in Poland.
Ukraine wants to continue cooperating with the US and is ready for both a mineral agreement and a peace agreement, says Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a press conference. He adds, however, that all agreements must be made on Ukraine's terms – and that Russia must be punished.
We need concrete security measures, both from the US and Europe and G7 countries, says Shmyhal.
Testing boundaries
Mychajlo Podoljak, close adviser to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, calls for calm.
"We are discussing alternatives with our European partners. And we are, of course, exploring the possibilities of negotiations with our American counterparts", he writes on X.
According to American media, the US pause will end only when Trump believes that Zelenskyj "shows a proper commitment to peace".
The President (Trump) has made it clear that he is focused on peace. We want our partners to be equally engaged in that goal. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it contributes to a solution, says an anonymous source within the White House to CNN.
In practice, it is Trump's way of testing the boundaries and pressuring Zelenskyj to sign a mineral agreement with the US, believe several analysts.
Response to the quarrel
It is unclear exactly how much aid is affected. Neither the Pentagon nor Donald Trump himself has commented on the matter so far.
The reports come days after the failed meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyj in the Oval Office, which ended with the visiting Ukrainian delegation being thrown out of the White House.
Since Friday's quarrel, the atmosphere has been at least tense between the two leaders. Trump accuses Zelenskyj of not wanting peace and of sabotaging the Americans' proposals for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Zelenskyj, on the other hand, has repeatedly emphasized that Ukraine needs security guarantees for a lasting peace to become a reality.
A source describes the pause as a direct response to what Trump sees as Zelenskyj's "bad behavior" during the visit to the White House.
