The controversial construction has previously been stopped by an appeals court, which said Congress must first approve the ballroom.
In his post, Trump now refers to it as a “military/ballroom complex” that is “so critical to national security.” It is a shift, with him increasingly talking about it as a military facility, with large underground spaces and drones on the roof, rather than a mere ballroom.
The East Wing of the White House will be demolished in the fall of 2025. Trump claims that the construction is being paid for by private financiers, but media reports say that half of the roughly six billion kronor in costs will come from taxpayers.
