When P4 Halland had five toys with sand tested in a laboratory, asbestos was found in one of them.
Even fairly limited asbestos exposure is problematic. There is no lower safe limit, Maria Albin, professor and senior physician in occupational and environmental medicine at Karolinska Institutet, told the radio.
Lekia's purchasing manager Erik Broddesson says that toys with sand are being removed until tests have shown that they do not contain asbestos.
Previously, consumer organizations in several countries have found asbestos in play and hobby sand.
On its website, the Swedish Chemicals Agency refers to studies conducted by authorities in several EU countries. The overall assessment is that the risk from products containing play sand is low.
