The Swede's goal – his sixth so far in the Stanley Cup playoffs – was an elegant story. A turnaround where Max Pacioretty skated up on the right side before serving Nylander in front of the goal, who whipped the puck behind Sergej Bobrovskij. Oliver Ekman-Larsson was also credited with assisting the delicacy.
Just as the numbers suggest, the clash was a close story, where the visiting team managed to take the lead twice – first 1–0 and then 2–1 – before the home team could take over. First through Nylander's equalizer and then Max Domi's 3–2. The visitors managed to equalize just over five minutes into the third – only to see Mitchell Marner rescue the home crowd with his 4–3 seconds later.
After the match, Toronto's coach Craig Berube poured praise over his Swedish star.
There is no scene that is too big for this guy. He lives for this. He looks forward to it, said Berube.
With tonight's feat, William Nylander has a total of thirteen points, tied for first in the Stanley Cup scoring league.
The win means that Toronto leads the quarterfinal series, which is decided in best of seven matches, against last year's champions with 2–0.
Leading their match series is also Dallas, which beat Winnipeg on the road with 3–2 in the first quarterfinal.
