Late summer's biggest transfer saga seems to finally be coming to an end. But at the same time as Alexander Isak is to get his transfer from Newcastle to Liverpool, the Swedish football national team is gathering in Stockholm.
According to national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson, things can be combined, despite the transfer window closing on Monday. He spoke with Isak as late as Monday morning and expects the 25-year-old to join the rest of the squad as early as today.
But he will not be training today, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.
Few in training
The afternoon session at Bosön on Lidingö is of a purely rehabilitative nature for the players who played matches on Saturday. Only around a handful of players are participating.
Dahl Tomasson does not want to say anything about Isak's expected billion transfer, until it is confirmed.
The whole world has read all the headlines lately. Me too. But nothing is clear, says Tomasson.
However, the Dane is in close contact with Isak.
I spoke with him yesterday and this morning.
The national team captain states that Isak is not a 90-minute player at the moment. The striker has not played a match since the end of last season.
Stable and balanced
But he is not worried that Isak - considering everything that has happened - will come to the national team with the "wrong" focus.
Not at all. "Alex" is extremely professional, he is very stable and balanced.
What is the plan for Isak, considering he has not played any matches for a long time?
In a perfect world, he would have had a preseason with six matches. We know how he has trained. He is a player who can decide matches. But can he play 90 minutes? Not a chance, says Dahl Tomasson.
The only question mark in the squad is Gabriel Gudmundsson, who stepped off in Leeds' meeting with Newcastle over the weekend.
He must be examined. We are keeping our fingers crossed, but it looks positive, says Dahl Tomasson.
Sweden begins the World Championship qualification away against Slovenia on Friday, and then travels to Pristina for another away match next week, against Kosovo.
