The national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson began the press conference ahead of the World Championship qualification against Kosovo with a defense speech. We all know, I and the players, that we have not started the qualification as we wanted, but we also know that second place is within reach.

The 0–2 loss to Switzerland on Friday was tough. The chance to win the group is in practice gone.

As a coach, you can't sleep, it's a long night after a loss, but then you think about the next match. There's always pressure, but it's football, says the national team captain.

Tomasson was booed by parts of the audience on Friday.

I understand that the fans are disappointed. Football is emotions and the audience wants the best for us. It's also black or white. You have to handle it, he says.

All players are available for Monday evening's qualifying match – a match that the national team must win to be able to grab second place, which guarantees playoff matches in March next year.

Viktor Johansson starts in goal and also the forwards Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak – both participated in the evening's press conference – are included from the start.

If there will be any changes in the starting eleven from the meeting with Switzerland, Tomasson does not want to reveal.

Self-critical

Let's wait and see. I don't want to give our opponent any advantages, says the national team captain.

Isak and Gyökeres are fully aware that the performances so far are not enough.

We players are clear and self-critical after matches where we don't win or perform well. I only hear players talking about that we haven't done enough good things.

We look at ourselves in the mirror, says Isak about the start of the World Championship qualifying and the massive criticism the national team has received after only one point out of nine possible.

Gyökeres adds:

In some of the matches, we haven't solved situations well enough and then I don't think it's about the way we play.

It's the first time since 2009 that the national team has played a competitive national team match at Ullevi in Gothenburg. Then the national team won against Malta with 4–0.

Not played at Ullevi

Isak set his feet on the pitch for the first time on Sunday evening, Gyökeres was on the pitch as a youth player in connection with a Gothia Cup opening.

But that it's almost like playing away from home, they don't agree with.

It's a new situation for us, which I think shouldn't affect us, but it remains to be seen. The lawn is finer than at Friends. We try to be positive and take every challenge that comes, says Isak.

The grass looked good, if we have a lot of support, it will feel like playing at home, says Gyökeres.

Monday evening's match is sold out, which means around 37,000 spectators.

Kickoff is at 20.45.
