When the last SHL round for 2024 – the 29th out of a total of 52 regular season rounds – was to be decided, Timrå's defenders were not satisfied with the goal production so far this season.
We said today is the last chance to score goals this year, said Per Svensson to TV4 Play.
Two defenseman goals
Svensson was interviewed after the first period and he came to the microphone as a goal scorer for the first time since September 2023. After 13.30 of the first period in Gävle, Per Svensson sent in a slapshot to make it 1–0.
Five seconds before the period break, Svensson was one big smile in the box. Then he had seen his defenseman colleague Linus Nässén extend to 2–0,
It was him and I who talked about it (scoring goals) this morning, said Svensson.
Timrå, which lacked the suspended forward star Jonathan Dahlén, even managed to miss a penalty shot. Brynäs goalkeeper Erik Källgren could easily save Oliver Kapanen's finish.
Tough to concede the second goal at the end. We need to step up overall, as a whole team, said Brynäs defenseman Christian Djoos to TV4 Play.
Before the match, Tommy Sjödin's jersey was raised to the ceiling in the arena, but the Brynäs legend did not get to see any improvement in the play during the second act.
"Win fairly"
Then Timrå's forward players took over the goal production. Already after ten seconds, Erik Walli Walterholm extended to 3–0, and after just over five minutes, Magnus Pääjärvi made it 4–0. Then Källgren was replaced by Ludvig Persson.
It didn't help. Although Brynäs finally got a goal past Tim Juel in the away goal, table sixth Timrå won with 6–3.
They win fairly because they compete a bit harder than us today, says Brynäs coach Niklas Gällstedt to TV4 Play.
