The series about the United States' perhaps most famous politician family – which is marked by tragedies – will be called "Kennedy" and is based on the book "JFK: Coming of age in the American century, 1917–1956" from 2020 by Swedish-American Fredrik Logevall. It takes its starting point in the 1930s where it follows the patriarch Joe Kennedy Sr, who will be played by Michael Fassbender, and the wife Rose Kennedy, and their nine children. Including John F Kennedy, who became the President of the United States and was murdered in 1963.
According to a press release from Netflix, the series will portray "the private lives, love affairs, rivalries and tragedies that shaped the most iconic dynasty in modern times – and which helped create the world we live in today".
It is clear with eight episodes, but when "Kennedy" will have its premiere has not yet been made public.
The 56-year-old Thomas Vinterberg has previously directed films such as "Festen" (1998), "The Hunt" (2012) and "Another Round" (2020), and last year the series "A family like ours", which he both wrote the script for and directed, was broadcast on TV4.
