"We have a strong team for the World Championship, several with a chance for really prominent placements and for some even medals. A number of active athletes who could have taken a place in the team have chosen to opt out of the World Championship to instead focus on basic training ahead of the summer. Despite this, we are eleven active athletes, which is more than we have been in recent years", says national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist in a press release.
The World Championship in Nanjing was originally supposed to have been decided already in 2020, but was postponed a couple of times due to the pandemic.
As recently as last week, the indoor European Championship was decided in Apeldoorn, where Sweden took three medals.
Henrik Larsson (silver on 60 meters) and Engla Nilsson (bronze in high jump) are among those who are skipping the World Championship, but Wictor Petersson (silver in shot put) chooses to pursue a medal also in China.
The team's big gold hope is of course Armand "Mondo" Duplantis, indoor World Champion in pole vault both in Belgrade 2022 and in Glasgow last year.
