At least 18 people have been killed in clashes between Bedouins and local fighters in the city of Sweida in southern Syria, according to the Syrian Human Rights Observatory (SOHR). The majority of Sweida's population are Druze.
Of the victims, 14 are Druze and four are Bedouins, according to SOHR. 40 people have also been injured. Local media report that the road between Damascus and Sweida has been closed due to the unrest.
The violence is the first with fatal outcome since Druze and security forces clashed in May, resulting in dozens of deaths.
