This concerns the Swedish Public Employment Service's so-called establishment program for newly arrived people, which can last up to 24 months and is one of the labor market policy initiatives introduced in 2017.
During that time, you formally rely on benefits to make ends meet and are therefore not entitled to any paid leave, writes State Secretary Erik Scheller, who is responsible for Minister of Labor Johan Britz (L), to the newspaper.
"The establishment program is demanding and intensive precisely to give those who come to Sweden faster integration."
All Swedish workers are entitled to five weeks of vacation each year, but the establishment program requires 100 percent attendance. The goal of the program is described as learning Swedish as quickly as possible, finding a job, and managing one's own finances.
