The idea was that Millennium – which was acquired for a billion kronor – would facilitate the flow of information within healthcare in Västra Götaland.
Instead, employees are testifying to a complicated system where few things work as they should.
On Friday – for the second day in a row – hundreds of employees had gathered outside the main entrance of Södra Älvsborgs hospital (Säs) to protest against Västra Götaland Region.
It's not patient-safe. I work at a healthcare center and before, we used to see eight patients per day. Now, we've seen two patients because the administrative tasks take so long, says doctor Julia Frydebo.
Västra Götaland's Medical Association has demanded that the regional leadership rethink. On Friday, it happened.
The introduction of Millennium is being paused. Temporarily.
Chaos and Protests
But it's not enough, according to Laura Raduta, who is the chief safety representative at Säs.
We don't believe the system is right for this purpose. It requires so much personnel and there's no money for that, she says.
We wouldn't be enough even if the system worked flawlessly.
Borås and Sjuhärad were the first in Västra Götaland Region to implement the journal system earlier in the week.
Since then, chaos and protests have characterized healthcare. Among other things, a healthcare center in Kinna paused the system earlier today – and switched to paper and pen instead.
"A Lousy System"
The healthcare employees have, among other things, worried that patient safety is at risk with Millennium.
It's a lousy system that's completely impossible to work in. These days, I've basically been unable to produce any healthcare, says Mårten Torle, chief physician at the women's clinic.
How long Millennium will be paused in Västra Götaland is still unclear. But Laura Raduta hopes that the pause will be for good and that Skåne – which has also chosen to invest in Millennium – will stop the implementation.
This war is for everyone in Västra Götaland and Skåne, it's over three million inhabitants, she says.
