Sirius remain the leader of the Swedish league after four rounds of play. After defeating Degerfors, Hammarby and Västerås in order, it was now Malmö's turn to experience the strength of the in-form Uppsala team.
The match opened at a high tempo, with the away team Sirius first to apply pressure. After just two minutes, striker Robbie Ure created a dangerous situation inside the penalty area, but the shot was stopped by a committed Malmö defense.
Malmö had no control over Sirius' attack at first and shortly afterwards the opening goal came. After a corner, Mohamed Soumah stayed forward and sent the ball into the roof of the net to make it 1–0.
New heavy setback
This weekend, it was announced that Malmö captain Pontus Jansson has torn his cruciate ligament, an injury that will keep the center back out of action for the rest of the season.
The replacement was young talent Bleon Kurtulus, who did not get much time on the field, however. After taking a blow to the face 20 minutes into the match, the defender was forced to leave and was replaced by Andrej Djuric.
"A concussion has been confirmed for Bleon," MFF's press communicator Frida Ardemark told Expressen.
The score was 1–0 to the away team at halftime.
Less than ten minutes after the break, Malmö scored an equalizer from Sead Haksabanovic, who scored for the second game in a row. The game then took off in earnest.
Referee reversed decision
First, referee Kristoffer Karlsson awarded a penalty to Sirius after a situation in which Colin Rösler was deemed to have handled the ball. But after consulting his team, he changed the decision.
But Sirius didn't let that affect them. Allsvenskan's top scorer Isak Bjerkebo, the 23-year-old, restored the lead with his fifth goal of the season.
Robbie Ure extended the away team's lead to 3–1 just five minutes later, which proved decisive. Malmö never came closer than Adrian Skogmar's goal.
Sirius lead the Swedish league; they do so with the maximum 12 points and look set to be a dangerous surprise for the supposed top teams this year. Top scorer Bjerkebo is pleased with his teammates.
"We have a lot. A wide squad. We have a really strong back line. We defend as well as possible. We have an incredible amount," he told TV4 Play.
