A total of 5 to 15 centimeters of fresh snow is expected in Svealand, with a risk of sudden icy patches. The warning has been extended to Gotland - the snowfall is expected to ease in the late afternoon.
Ice warnings also applied to large parts of Götaland during the morning - but had ceased to apply by lunchtime. A number of accidents occurred during the morning.
Among other incidents, two passenger cars and a plow truck collided on county road 842 outside Tenhult this morning when one of the cars tried to overtake the plow truck. Two people were taken to hospital.
Also in Falköping, two people were taken to hospital after two cars collided in what the police describe as rough road conditions.
"Keep an eye on the weather forecast before you hit the roads on Wednesday. When it snows or rains on cold roads, it can quickly become slippery, so take it easy and adjust your driving," says Linnea Viklund, head of road maintenance at the Swedish Transport Administration in Stockholm, in a press release.
SMHI has also issued a yellow warning for heavy snowfall in northeastern Gävleborg and eastern Västernorrland.
