Between 5 and 15 centimeters of fresh snow are expected in Svealand, with a risk of sudden black ice. The warning has been extended to Gotland - the snowfall is expected to ease in the late afternoon.
In large parts of Götaland, SMHI is warning of icy conditions - and a number of accidents have occurred during the morning.
Among other things, two passenger cars and a plow truck collided on county road 842 outside Tenhult this morning, after one of the cars tried to overtake the plow truck. Two people had to be taken to hospital.
Also in Falköping, two people were taken to hospital after two cars collided in what the police describe as rough road conditions.
"Keep an eye on the weather forecast before you hit the roads on Wednesday. When it snows or rains on cold roads, it can quickly become slippery, so take it easy and adjust your driving," says Linnea Viklund, head of road maintenance at the Swedish Transport Administration in Stockholm, in a press release.
SMHI has also issued a yellow warning for heavy snowfall in northeastern Gävleborg and eastern Västernorrland.
