It was after McDavid released the puck that he knocked down Marcus Johansson with an elbow in the second period. McDavid didn't even get a penalty for the foul, but the 34-year-old Swede was forced to leave the ice. Minnesota reports that Johansson has suffered an upper body injury.
McDavid was at the center of events also in a positive sense. With two goals and an assist, he strongly contributed to Edmonton's 5–3 away win.
Thus, he surpassed Finnish legend Jari Kurri and is now Edmonton's second-best point scorer of all time, with 1,044 points.
An incredible achievement that he climbs so quickly on that list, in a club that has had so many significant players, says Edmonton coach Kris Knoblauch.
Before McDavid, there is now only Wayne Gretzky with 1,669 points.
