Brynäs has had a rather incredible comeback season in SHL ice hockey and seemed to continue on the same path when Rögle came to Gävle.
In a goal-rich middle period, Brynäs went ahead to a 4–1 lead, after 17-year-old Gustav Hillström scored the fourth goal and simultaneously made his SHL debut.
It looked like a fairly safe lead, even when Carter Ashton reduced for Rögle at the beginning of the third period. But the Ängelholm team continued to creep closer when Rögle netted again, with just over five minutes left.
Late equalizer
Brynäs burned a couple of golden opportunities to kill the match when Rögle pulled out the goalie in pursuit of an equalizer. Rögle had better sharpness and with 43 seconds left, Calle Själin shot 4–4.
The match went to penalties and there, Jakob Silfverberg – who also shot 1–0 – was the only one to score.
Färjestad saw to it earlier in the day not to drop points in the top struggle through 3–0 away against Skellefteå.
Match hero: two-goal shooter Oscar Steen.
Steen has now scored 21 goals in 30 matches and leads the scoring league, three goals ahead of Färjestad's David Tomasek, who leads the points league with five points ahead of Steen.
The goals have been rolling in during the autumn. It's fun to score goals, so it's just a matter of continuing to shoot the puck towards the goal, he says to TV4 Play.
I'm trying to help the team as much as I can.
Had to capitulate
Steen returned home from North America this season, but says he's keeping the door open for a return.
It was Skellefteå's goalie Linus Söderström who kept the team in the match during the first two periods, which were goalless. In the third, he had to capitulate twice. Michael Lindqvist scored Färjestad's last goal in an empty net.
Färjestad retains second place in SHL, now three points behind Brynäs.
Malmö made a final period that was even more intense than Rögle's. 1–4 was turned into 5–4 at home against HV71. Winner: Nikola Pasic.
HV71 has only one point down to Linköping below the relegation line, after the Östergötlanders won 2–1 away against Växjö after overtime earlier in the day.
