The congress in Örebro, which begins on Friday, will, among other things, re-elect Nooshi Dadgostar as party chairman and nail down a three-part election platform. The platform will be a distillation of the policies V will take to the polls on September 13.

It also states that the party wants to see a red-green government after the election, a government that includes V. But the proposed platform also says that one should vote no to all governments that do not include V. This also means no to an S-government or a red-green government without the Left Party.

Losing substantive politics

"With that line and statements about it, we lose out in talking about substantive politics. And it is politics that we are going to the elections on anyway, not how many ministerial posts we should have," says Gunilla Cederbom from the party association in Vänersborg, which has put forward a motion on the government issue.

"We get stuck on that question all the time."

Several other associations and individual petitioners also do not want V to issue an ultimatum. They argue, somewhat simplistically, that it may be better to negotiate cooperation agreements on important V issues in exchange for V giving its support to an S government or a red-green constellation without V. Someone also points out that an ultimatum could lead to the Tidö parties being allowed to continue to govern.

"We should not already say that 'we will be involved, otherwise it will be,'" believes Gunilla Cederbom.

Fight over party tax

Another issue that could heat things up is how much the party's MPs, EU parliamentarians, regional and municipal politicians should pay in party tax. Today, they must pay into the party any amount over 37,530 kronor a month, after tax, from their fees. The party board wants to reduce the party tax by raising the limit to 41,700 kronor per person.

But the party district in Västerbotten and the party association in Malmö say no. Others, however, think the party tax will be too high even with the change proposed by the party leadership.

Held in Örebro, April 17–19.

225 representatives from across the country.
